* Conference background and goals
The IADIS international conference on "Theory and Practice in Modern Computing" provides a forum for research and developments in the field of computing foundations and technology. Modern computing comes not only with efficient concepts and their application, but also it often
addresses networking and mobility topics. Hence, the view in TPMC ranges from fundamentals like new or improved algorithms to very recent and modern applications like ubiquitous scenarios or even everyday computing. Complementary to these technically-oriented contents, TPMC also shall serve as discussion platform about ethics and social impact of those technologies. In its main focus, this scientific conference aims to attract research reports on efficient application and realization of simple algorithmic methods, new architectures in design and data structures, new and improved communication protocols, and synthesis of known computing concepts and approaches.

The conference will comprise of invited talks and oral presentations.
The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a book and CD-ROM with ISBN, and will be available also in the IADIS Digital Library (accessible on-line).
The conference proceedings will be submitted for indexing to INSPEC, EI Compendex, Thomson ISI, ISTP and other indexing services.

Selected authors of best papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers to

The Eisenhower Institute recently sent four students to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where they participated in the 63rd annual Student Conference on Foreign Affairs (SCUSA) from November 2-5, 2011. Delegates to the SCUSA conference participated in roundtable sessions, attended panel discussions, and listened to keynote speakers on several different topics concerning U.S. foreign and military policy.

*** DEADLINE EXTENDED: 7th December 2011 ***

Recent events involving both natural disasters and human-made
attacks have emphasised the importance of solving challenging
problems in risk management, security and defence. Traditional
methods have proven insufficient to address these problems and
hence Computational Intelligence techniques present themselves
as a more appealing alternative.
We seek both theoretical developments and applications of
Computational Intelligence to these subjects. All bio-inspired
computational paradigms are welcome, mainly Genetic and
Evolutionary Computation, but also Fuzzy Logic, Intelligent
Agent Systems, Neural Networks, Cellular Automata, Artificial
Immune Systems and others, including hybrids.

Topics include but are not limited to:
Cyber crime: anomaly detection systems, attack prevention and
defence, threat forecasting systems, anti spam, antivirus systems,
cyber warfare, cyber fraud
IT Security: Intrusion detection, behaviour monitoring, network
traffic analysis
Resilient and self-healing systems
Risk management: identification, prevention, monitoring and
handling of risks, risk impact and probability estimation systems,
contingency plans, real time risk management
Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)
Military, counter-terrorism and other defence related aspects
Disaster relief and humanitarian logistics
Real-world applications of these subjects

Submissions should be formatted according to the LNCS guidelines
and must not be longer than 10 pages. Accepted papers will appear
in the proceedings of Evo*, published in a volume of the Springer
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, which will be available at the
Conference.

EuroGP is the premier annual conference on Genetic Programming. EuroGP
is always a very enjoyable event, held together with the other main
european events on Evolutionary Computation (EvoBio, EvoCOP,
EvoApplications, EvoMusArt), collectively designated as EvoStar (Evo*).
EvoStar 2012 takes place in Malaga, Spain, the capital of the Costa del
Sol and one of the most cosmopolitan and open cities in Europe, widely
known for its superb weather, food, and hospitality. It offers an
excellent environment for participants to enjoy their visit, from the
academic and the social point of view.

EuroGP 2012 seeks high quality papers on topics strongly related to the
evolution of computer programs, including but not limited to:
* Theoretical developments
* Empirical studies of GP performance and behaviour
* Landscape analysis of GP
* Algorithms, representations and operators
* Applications of GP to real-life problems
* Evolutionary design
* Evolutionary robotics
* Tree-based GP
* Linear GP
* Graph-based GP
* Grammar-based GP
* Evolvable hardware
* Self-reproducing programs
* Multi-population GP
* Multi-objective GP
* Fast/Parallel GP (e.g., GPU implementation of GP)
* Probabilistic GP (e.g., combining ideas of estimation of
distribution algorithms and GP)
* Evolution of various classes of automata or machine (e.g.
cellular automata, finite state machines, pushdown automata, Turing
machines)
* Software Engineering and GP: using GP to evolve complete programs
(e.g., including variables, loops, recursion) and using SE methods
(e.g., software design) to improve GP
* Object-oriented GP
* Hybrid architectures including GP components
* Unconventional evolvable computation

The submissions will be peer reviewed by at least three members of the
program committee. The reviewing process will be double-blind, so please
omit information about the authors in the submitted paper. Accepted
papers will be presented orally or as posters at the conference and will
be published by Springer in the LNCS series.

The papers which receive the best reviews will be nominated for the Best
Paper Award. Authors of selected papers may be invited to submit
extended versions of their work to the Springer journal GPEM - Genetic
Programming and Evolvable Machines (http://www.springer.com/10710). Last
year, four best papers were selected for a special issue of GPEM to be
published in early 2012.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of EvoBio, EuroGP encourages
submissions applying genetic programming to problems in computational
biology and new biologically inspired extensions of the genetic
programming framework for a special joint session of EuroGP with EvoBio.
These papers can be submitted either to EuroGP or EvoBio, and the
authors of the best ones will be invited to submit extended versions of
their work to a special issue of GPEM.
