Computer Scientist
Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Instructional Level: Undergraduate and Graduate
Position Characteristics: The Computer Science Department invites applications for a tenure-track position with a specialty in software engineering, computer/operating systems, database/information systems, graphics/visual computing, intelligent systems, or algorithms The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses to both majors and non-majors. Other responsibilities include research, student advising, program assessment, and service on academic committees. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Specific assignments depend on departmental needs.
Academic Preparation: An earned doctorate (Ph.D) in Computer Science or closely related field is required for appointment to a tenure-track position. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral research or industrial experience and whose specialties are in software engineering, computer/operating systems, database/information systems, graphics/visual computing, intelligent systems, or algorithms.
Teaching Or Other Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a high potential for maintaining an active research program in a specialty area of computer science and for excelling at teaching computer science courses at the university level. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to research, teaching, and scholarly activities, including successful grantsmanship and research publications. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
