Evans-Eisenhower Professor, has just returned from the World Health Organization's World Conference on Social Determinants of Health, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from October 19 to 21, 2011. The World Conference sought to promote a new framework for global health policy that would address social and economic factors such as poverty, income inequality, racial and ethnic discrimination, and gender inequality, which are referred to as the "social determinants of health." |
